Seligman (population 446) is the "Birth Place Of Historic Route 66," not to be confused with the "Birthplace of Route 66," which is Springfield, Missouri.
In 1987, the residents of Seligman convinced the State of Arizona to dedicate US Route 66 through Arizona as a historic highway; thus, making Seligman the "Birth Place of Historic Route 66." A number of historic buildings and businesses are located in Seligman.
The section of Historic Route 66 that passes through Seligman is the only remaining 160 mile uninterrupted stretch of the original Route 66, so it is a favorite road to travel in a vintage 1950's vehicle.

While driving down Main Street, we noticed Ronald Reagan and Norma Jean sitting on top of a building. During WW II Captain Reagan found Norma Jean Mortenson working in an airplane factory and put her to work making WW II films to highlight the contributions of women helping the war effort. Reagan sent photographer David Conover to get pictures of Norma Jean; and later they ended up getting married. After the War, Norma Jean divorced her husband, bleached her hair blonde, changed her name, and became Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroe. Ronald Reagan became the 40th President of the United States.
