Ronnie Adventure #0708 - Phil Maloof Auto Collection, Las Vegas, Nevada

While touring the Phil Maloof Estate in Las Vegas, we visited his Auto Collection, which consisted of several hundred cars stored in multiple garages. The cars were generally grouped by similar age and make, but the garages were not arranged in any particular order.

We first entered a Cadillac garage that featured Eleanor Roosevelt's two-tone green 1941 Cadillac. This entire room was filled with different models of 1941 Cadillacs.

The next room was filled with Chrysler products. Everyone who grew up in the 1950s and 1960s will remember the 1950 Mercury. Typically, some kid in every high school owned a 1949 or 1950 Mercury. Ford products were popular because they had flathead V-8 engines, while Chevrolet products had straight-6 engines.

The next few rooms contained a mixture of makes and models.

In the yard between buildings, there were a variety of automotive-related products, including gas pumps, drive-in movie speakers, and statues.

When I was in high school, I owned a '41 Lincoln coupe with a V-12 engine. It was an amazing car for its day. Ford designed a special 2-barrel carburetor for the V-12 Lincoln-Zephyr engine, but still had difficulty getting gas to the cylinders at each end of the engine. I sold the car and bought a Norton 250 twin motorcycle.

The 1959 Cadillac, with its large rear vertical fins, is one of the most recognizable vehicles ever produced.

One room was filled with Duesenbergs, which were the most expensive cars in the collection. My favorite was the red and white Boattail Speedster
